Peer pressure is something that everyone has to face. Peer pressure is when your fellow peers forcefully influence you to do something.
There are two types of peer pressure; positive peer pressure and negative peer pressure. Positive peer pressure is when the influence from your peer will effect you in a positive way and make you behave responsibly. Negative peer pressure will influence you to behave irresponsibly. To avoid falling into negative peer pressure, you will need good resistance skills
Here are some ways to say NO!

Here are some ways to say NO!
- Make a joke out of the situation. It will make the situation less awkward and your peer might even forget they asked you.
- Give a Reason Why its a Bad Idea. Tell them that you know someone who is an alcoholic or that you know the consequences.
- Make an Excuse. Tell them that you are running the mile tomorrow or that your mom will find out (because she probably will) but remember to stick with your excuse.
- Just say no . say it plainly and firmly
- Suggest an alternate activity. The people trying to influence you probably have nothing better to do so ask them if they want to do something fun.
- Ignore the suggestion. Pretend you didn't hear it or just change the subject.
- Use the broken record technique. Repeat yourself as many times as it takes to stop them from influencing you. Just because they ask you more than once doesn't mean that you need to cave.
- Leave the situation. Its ok if you walk away! Maybe others will follow you because thwy also don't want to fall under peer pressure.
- Thanks, but no thanks. You can still be polite but just say you are not into that or that you are not interested.
- The power of numbers. The more friends you have to support your decision with you the more likely you will not be negatively peer pressured.

Stephanie did not fall under peer pressure when the girls handed her a cigarette. She used multiple excuses like she was trying to quit and that she had to go to class. Even though the girls made fun of her she resisted the peer pressure and stood up for what she believed was the right thing to do.
